It has been pointed out that for backpacking, the figures quoted in the last post are not really that budget. To those critics - I entirely agree, in Africa/India/Vietnam etc you can happily get bed and board and booze for $10.
But this is Australia. Land of the expensive. So untroubled (well, relatively) by the recession we so bemoan in Europe that they float huge ducks into Sydney Harbour and call it art.
When a beer is $7, and a burger is $15, trust me, we are seriously scrimping!
